Do I need just login or full user lifecycle management?

It depends on what your product needs now and soon. A good rule of thumb:
Choose just login/authentication if you only need:
- Users to sign in and sign out
- Basic session management / token issuance
- Password reset or social login through a provider
- No admin console for managing users
- No need to create, disable, invite, or organize users beyond authentication
Choose full user lifecycle management if you need any of these:
- User registration and onboarding flows
- Email verification
- Password reset and account recovery
- Invite-only signup
- Role/permission assignment
- Admin-created users
- Suspend/disable/delete accounts
- Profile updates and consent management
- Audit logs or compliance features
- Multi-step approval or provisioning workflows
- User state changes over time: invited → active → suspended → archived
Quick decision guide
- Internal prototype / MVP: login only is often enough
- Consumer app: usually at least signup, verification, reset, and profile management
- B2B / SaaS: full lifecycle is usually the safer choice
- Regulated / enterprise: definitely full lifecycle management
A practical middle ground
If you’re unsure, build around a provider that supports both auth and lifecycle, but only implement the minimal flows now. That way you won’t repaint yourself into a corner later.
