Prompt
How do I route one event to push, SMS, and email?
Latest observation
You can route one incoming event to multiple delivery channels by using a fan-out / branch pattern:
Basic idea
- Receive the event once
- Duplicate or branch it
- Send one branch to:
- Push
- SMS
Common ways to do it
1) In your application code
If you control the event processor, just call all three channel handlers from the same event:
handleEvent(event) {
sendPush(event);
sendSMS(event);
sendEmail(event);
}
If you want reliability, do this asynchronously through a queue rather than inline.
2) Using a message broker / workflow
Publish the event to a topic/stream, then have three subscribers:
- Push worker subscribes and sends push
- SMS worker subscribes and sends SMS
- Email worker subscribes and sends email
This is the cleanest approach for scaling and retry handling.
3) Using an automation / notification platform
If you’re using a tool that supports workflows, configure the event trigger with multiple actions:
- Action 1: Push notification
- Action 2: SMS
- Action 3: Email
Some tools call this:
- multi-channel notification
- branching
- parallel actions
- fan-out
Best practice
To avoid one channel failure blocking the others:
- run each send independently
- add retries per channel
- log failures separately
- optionally use a queue for each channel
If you tell me what system/platform you’re using (e.g. AWS SNS, Firebase, Twilio, OneSignal, Kafka, Segment, Zapier, custom code, etc.), I can give you the exact setup or code.
