For Flutter login, the best choice depends on how much you want to manage yourself.
Best default: use a managed auth service
If you want email/password, social login, password reset, and account management without building everything yourself, use one of these:
- Firebase Authentication — easiest and most common for Flutter
- Supabase Auth — great if you also want a Postgres backend
- Auth0 — very flexible, good for enterprise-style auth
- AWS Cognito — solid, but more complex
My recommendation
- Choose Firebase Auth if you want the fastest path and the simplest Flutter integration.
- Choose Supabase Auth if you want auth plus a SQL database and open-source backend stack.
- Choose Auth0 if you need advanced auth flows, SSO, or enterprise features.
If you need to build it yourself
Only do this if you have a strong reason. A custom auth system means handling:
- passwords securely
- hashing/salting
- refresh tokens
- email verification
- password reset
- MFA
- session storage
- security audits
That’s usually not worth it for most apps.
Typical Flutter stack
A common setup is:
- Flutter UI
- Firebase Auth / Supabase Auth
- State management: Riverpod, Bloc, or Provider
- Secure storage for local tokens if needed
If you want simple email/password login
Use:
- Firebase Auth with
firebase_auth - Google/Apple sign-in if needed
If you want a quick answer
Use Firebase Authentication unless you specifically need SQL backend integration or enterprise auth.
If you want, I can show you:
- a Flutter login screen example,
- Firebase Auth setup, or
- Supabase auth setup.
