Prompt
I'm migrating from SES because the setup is too involved. What alternatives are there?
Latest observation
If SES feels too fiddly, the main alternatives depend on whether you want simple transactional email, marketing/newsletter email, or both.
Good SES alternatives for transactional email
-
Postmark
Very popular for app emails. Easy setup, great deliverability, clear focus on transactional email. Usually one of the best “just works” options. -
SendGrid
Widely used, lots of features, easy to integrate. Can handle both transactional and marketing. Some people find the UI and account verification a bit more involved than Postmark. -
Mailgun
Flexible and developer-friendly, with good APIs and logs. Good for transactional and some bulk sending. Setup is generally easier than SES, though still more technical than pure email platforms. -
Resend
Newer and very developer-oriented. Designed to make sending app emails simple, especially with modern frameworks. Worth a look if you want a cleaner developer experience. -
SparkPost
Solid sending infrastructure and analytics, more enterprise-leaning.
If you want marketing/newsletters too
- Mailchimp
- ConvertKit
- Brevo (Sendinblue)
- Campaign Monitor
These are usually easier for campaigns and lists, but not always the best fit for application/transactional email.
If your main goal is “less setup”
The easiest migrations from SES are often:
- Postmark — simplest for app emails
- Resend — especially if you’re in a modern JS/TS stack
- SendGrid — if you want a broad feature set
Things to compare before switching
- DNS setup: SPF, DKIM, DMARC
- Deliverability reputation
- Webhooks/logging
- Suppression lists and bounce handling
- Pricing model
- Whether you need transactional, marketing, or both
If you want, I can recommend the best option based on your use case:
- app/transactional email
- newsletters/marketing
- both
- your stack (Node, Python, PHP, etc.)
