W-2 filing online

You can file W-2s online through the Social Security Administration’s Business Services Online (BSO) portal.

How to do it

1. Go to the SSA Business Services Online website.
2. Create or log in to your employer account.
3. Choose W-2/W-3 Online.
4. Enter employee wage and tax information.
5. Review and submit the forms.

Important

• You usually file W-2s for employees; you do not file a W-2 for yourself if you’re self-employed.
• If you have 10 or more information returns, the IRS generally requires electronic filing.
• You’ll also need to give copies of W-2s to employees, usually by January 31.
