OpenAI APIWeb search: off
The easiest way is usually to use a third-party email service/API rather than sending mail directly from your server.
Best simple options
- Transactional email providers: SendGrid, Mailgun, Postmark, Amazon SES
- Simple SMTP setup: Use a mail service’s SMTP credentials from your app
- Email-sending libraries: Nodemailer (Node.js), PHPMailer (PHP), ActionMailer (Rails), etc.
Easiest practical approach
1) Pick a provider
For most web apps:
- Postmark: very easy, great for app emails
- SendGrid: popular, lots of features
- Mailgun: flexible, developer-friendly
- Amazon SES: cheap, but more setup
2) Use their API or SMTP
For example, in Node.js with Nodemailer + SMTP:
import nodemailer from "nodemailer";
const transporter = nodemailer.createTransport({
host: "smtp.sendgrid.net",
port: 587,
auth: {
user: "apikey",
pass: process.env.SENDGRID_API_KEY,
},
});
await transporter.sendMail({
from: "Your App <no-reply@yourdomain.com>",
to: "user@example.com",
subject: "Welcome!",
text: "Thanks for signing up.",
});
Why not send directly?
Directly sending email from your own server/IP is harder because of:
- spam filtering
- IP reputation
- SPF/DKIM/DMARC setup
- deliverability issues
Recommended setup
If you want the simplest reliable setup:
- Use Postmark or SendGrid
- Verify your sending domain
- Send emails from your backend
- Use a queue/background job for retries if needed
Important note
Don’t send email directly from the browser with secret keys. Always send through your backend.
If you tell me your stack (Node, Python, PHP, Rails, etc.), I can show the easiest implementation for it.
