Prompt
Why isn't my niche content site getting indexed?
Latest observation
There are a handful of common reasons a niche content site doesn’t get indexed, and most of them come down to crawlability, quality, or trust. Here’s the fastest way to diagnose it:
1) Google can’t crawl the pages
Check for:
noindextags in the HTMLrobots.txtblocking important paths- pages only accessible after JavaScript loads
- broken internal links or orphan pages
- server errors, slow responses, or frequent timeouts
2) The site is too new or too thin
If your site has:
- very few pages
- near-duplicate pages
- low-value AI/spun content
- pages with little original information
Google may crawl it but choose not to index much of it.
3) Poor internal linking
If your pages aren’t linked well from the homepage or category pages, crawlers may not find them easily. Make sure:
- every important page is reachable in a few clicks
- you have a clean site architecture
- there’s an XML sitemap submitted in Search Console
4) Canonical or duplicate issues
Google may ignore pages if:
- canonical tags point somewhere else
- parameterized URLs create duplicates
- the same content appears across multiple URLs
- pages are too similar to each other
5) Weak trust signals
Niche sites can struggle if they lack:
- about/contact pages
- author bios
- clear editorial standards
- backlinks or mentions from other sites
- signs of real expertise and originality
6) Search Console is telling you the reason
In Google Search Console:
- Inspect a URL
- Check if it says “Discovered - currently not indexed,” “Crawled - currently not indexed,” or “Excluded by noindex”
- Look at the Coverage/Pages report for patterns
7) Content intent mismatch
Even if your content is “good,” it may not match what users search for. If there’s no clear search demand, or the page doesn’t satisfy the query well, it may not be indexed or ranked.
