Prompt
Zyte keeps failing on JavaScript pages for me

OpenAI APIWeb search: off
That usually happens when the page needs more than a basic render, or when the site is actively blocking automation. A few common causes and fixes:
Common reasons Zyte fails on JS pages
-
The page renders data after user interactions
- Content only appears after scrolling, clicking, closing popups, or waiting for API calls.
-
Anti-bot or rate limiting
- The site may detect scraping and return empty/blocked content, CAPTCHA, or different HTML.
-
JavaScript app uses delayed network requests
- The page loads shell HTML first, then fetches content from XHR/fetch calls that Zyte may not wait for long enough.
-
Content is inside iframes or shadow DOM
- Some scrapers don’t extract these by default.
-
Geo/login/session requirements
- The page may require cookies, region-specific access, or authenticated sessions.
Things to try
- Increase wait time / render timeout
- If Zyte supports it, wait longer before extraction.
- Use browser rendering mode
- Make sure the request is using a full browser, not just static fetch.
- Trigger interactions
- Scroll, click “Load more,” accept cookies, dismiss overlays.
- Check response HTML
- See whether Zyte is getting a block page, empty shell, or partial DOM.
- Inspect network/API calls
- Often the data is coming from a JSON endpoint you can call directly.
- Rotate IPs / lower rate
- If you’re making many requests, slow down and spread them out.
- Set headers/cookies
- User-Agent, Accept-Language, session cookies, auth tokens, etc.
Best debugging step
Compare:
- Browser page source in your normal browser
- The HTML Zyte returns
- Any XHR/fetch calls the page makes
If the real data is in an API call, scraping the API directly is usually much more reliable than rendering the page.
If you want, send me:
- the URL,
- what Zyte product you’re using,
- and a sample of the failing response or error,
and I can help narrow down the exact issue.
